Unit outlines
Unit outlines and term overviews are the top two layers of the program of learning for each CAL class. More details are provided via Google Classroom.- Unit outlines are posted on class pages (see below) in advance each semester and term overviews are posted at the start of each term, as soon as these are finalised. The unit outline for each unit provides a general unit description, a summary of unit goals, an overview of focus areas for reflection, and a schedule of assessment tasks with their categories, timing and weighting.
- For more details about the course program for face-to-face sessions and work required outside the face-to-face sessions, please refer to the class portal on Google Classroom. Work completed outside face-to-face sessions forms part of the evidence for participation credits in the program.

Follow your class portal on Google Classroom for resources about Diverse Perspectives. Items will be posted/updated as successive topics are introduced.
Topic focus areas for Q3 (the first half of this unit) are the following:
- Coming of age in Japan – Domains 1, 2 & 3
- Traditional food – Domains 1, 2 & 3
- Festivals and public holidays – Domains 1, 2 & 3
Topic focus areas for Q4 (the second half of this unit) are the following:
- Traditional Japanese music, Domain: 1, 2, 3, 4
- Origami activity, Domain: 1, 2, 3, 4
- Story telling styles, Domain: 2, 3, 4
- Popular TV shows in Japan, Domain: 1, 2, 3, 4.
Assessment item descriptions
Assessment task descriptions will be posted to the Programs page on CAL website ahead of scheduled assessment tasks and will be updated if and when there are changes. For general information on the timing of assessment tasks throughout the semester, see the Events page on CAL website. Look for the pencil-and-paper icons.
