List 8 - At home

Languages.Org.Au HomeFrenchFrench Language → At home

You may be staying in a house or an apartment. Apartment living is more widespread in France than it is in Australia, although Australian housing patterns are changing and increasing numbers of Australian families now live in apartments. Some features of Australian homes, such as the verandah, the laundry, the family room and the study, are less common in French homes, or their functions are served in other ways. Because of the much higher density of population in France, and the prevalence of apartments, the balcony in a French home may take over some of the functions of the verandah, deck or patio and of the garden.
