List 7 - Food and drink

Languages.Org.Au HomeFrenchFrench Language → Food and drink

At home, at the restaurants and cafes and in the supermarket, grocery or in other specialist food shops, here are some of the expressions you may need.

Naming foods and drinks

If you are naming these in general, you can use the definite article: "le"/"la"/"les", eg "J'aime le fromage" (I like cheese - referring to cheese in general). If you are referring to buying or eating some, you would use the partitive article: "du"/"de la"/"des", eg "Je voudrais du fromage" (I would like some cheese - not necessarily all the cheese!).
